Halifax Factory

Halifax

The Halifax factory was originally established in 1900 and took over the production of all McVitie’s Cakes in 1992.

Harlesden Factory

London

The Harlesden factory was built in 1902 and was the first McVitie’s location outside Edinburgh – chosen due to its position between a railway line and the canal. In 1956, it became the first automated bulk handling factory in the UK.

Manchester Factory

Manchester

The Manchester factory opened in 1914, with its main purpose being to supply ‘iron ration’ plain biscuits for front line soldiers during World War One.

Midlands Distribution Centre

Ashby-de-la-Zouch

MDC opened in 1992 and handles over 3 million palettes of product every year.

R&D Centre and Office

High Wycombe

The High Wycombe Office opened in 1987, and is where our Hobnobs and Chocolate Hobnobs were developed.

miü campus

Opened in 2021, the pladis Global HQ, miü campus, was named in honour of the pladis Chairman Murat Ülker.

Opened in 1839, McVitie’s started life as a small provision shop on Rose Street in Edinburgh, Scotland.

McVitie's second shop

Edinburgh

14 Charlotte Place (later renamed Randolph Place), just west of Charlotte Square, was the site of the second McVitie’s shop, opened in 1843.

Birthplace of McVitie’s Digestives

Edinburgh

In 1892, Alexander Grant developed the original recipe for the famous McVitie's Digestive biscuit – the recipe remains our secret to this day.

First McVitie’s Factory

Edinburgh

After operating in various locations within Edinburgh, McVitie & Price opened its first factory in the suburbs in 1888: The St Andrews Biscuit Works.

Prince Philip is given a ‘pop star reception’ in 1963 when he visits McVitie & Price’s Biscuit Factory in London.

Baking the cakes of the Nation

High Wycombe

High Wycombe has baked the Nation’s most important cakes, producing both the Queen’s Jubilee Cake in 2022 and King Charles’ Coronation Cake in 2023.
